In 2015, Mastering Portrait Photography by Paul Wilkinson and Sarah Plater was published. Now, ten years on, a wonderful updated version is now available.

Paul Wilkinson is an internationally acclaimed portrait photographer and trainer, with clients around the world and creative roots firmly planted in Haddenham.

Indeed, such was his reputation in 2015 that Paul was invited to put together a book on the subject. Mastering Portrait Photography not only included some of Paul’s finest portraits but also a whole range of insightful tips and practical advice on how to achieve fantastic portraits of your own.

The original edition of Mastering Portrait Photography was translated into four other languages (Italian, German, Chinese and Korean). Reprinted three times it sold over 50,000 copies worldwide.

A lot has changed during the past ten years, but one thing that hasn’t is how passionate Paul is about his work and how much he still loves passing on his tips and advice.

The new book is again a marriage of method and artistry. 176 pages filled with a wonderful selection of completely new images, taken locally at Paul’s studio and Turn End Gardens in Haddenham, alongside portraits from worldwide commissions, ranging from London and Italy to Buenos Aires, Hawaii, and Australia.

Of course technology moves fast in the world of creative photography. The new edition of Mastering Portrait Photography, again co-written with long-time collaborator Sarah Plater, has embraced new developments with updated pages on post production and workflow. This includes a new section called ‘Staying Creative’ . This deals with utilising everything that AI has to offer as a creative tool.

Mastering Portrait Photography officially launches this October and will be available through all good bookshops. Paul will be holding a special exhibition at his studio on Sunday 5th October to celebrate the launch, with signed copies available on the day.
