Wake up and smell the coffee – Colombia Coffee Roasters new café in Wheatley.

A roast to boast about

A generation of Colombian coffee growers have brought their expertise to Oxfordshire.

N Nothing perks you up in the morning like a good cup of coffee, even better when it’s a great cup of coffee.

Colombia Coffee Roasters first featured in Thame Out magazine over ten years ago. They now supply restaurants, delicatessens, cafés and colleges throughout the Oxfordshire area with the most finely roasted and the most delicately balanced coffee.

With cafés in Summertown and Oxford’s famous covered market, Colombia Coffee Roasters are hugely popular.

It all started in Old London Road, Wheatley. It was here that the business started roasting their coffee beans, and they still do. However the premises has been recently extended allowing customers to observe the roasting process and sit down and savour this wonderful coffee.

Colombia Coffee Roasters is a family-run company that celebrates the high quality and diversity of Colombian coffee, whilst supporting Fair Trade conditions to ensure their coffee is sustainable and ethical.

Owner Milly Barr imports the beans from her family’s farm in Colombia as well as some other local plantations. Here the climate is perfect for growing coffee beans. At an elevation of between 1,000 and 2,000 feet above sea level, the soil and the rainfall compliment each other to produce the most flavoursome beans.

As soon as the beans arrive in Wheatley, they are roasted immediately on site. As a result, the beans are super fresh and bursting with taste.

The Wheatley café serves a variety of coffees as well as a selection of award winning Hot Chocolates and loose leaf teas.

To accompany your choice of beverage, you can choose from a selection of pastries and some wonderful freshly made bagels.

As well as enjoying your coffee in the café, you can of course purchase bagged up beans, homemade chocolate treats and with an eye on the environment, reusable stylish mugs. All of these are also available online. Purchase for yourself or perhaps as a gift.

Colombia Coffee Roasters also offer a comprehensive range of coffee subscriptions. With these, you can order coffee online and sample the rich diversity of flavours that Colombian coffee has to offer.

The team run several coffee master-classes. Join them to take a deep dive into espresso, latte art, and filter brewing. Take your coffee brewing game to the next level.

So what next for Milly and her team?

Close to Oxford’s main line railway station you will find the ‘Jam Factory’.

This stunning Grade II listed building dates back to 1903 when it was purpose-built for Frank Cooper’s marmalade business and next year will be the home of another Colombia Coffee Roasters.

Milly is thrilled to be located in somewhere that has such a special place in the heart of the city.

But first, the recently opened café in Wheatley. It is located within a small suite of businesses on Old London Road.

Art, inspired by Colombia adorn the walls. Rooms are filled with sacks of coffee beans and plants. Warm, friendly and a little different to most cafés.

So, if fresh tasty coffee is your cup of tea, the Colombia Coffee Roasters café is well worth a visit.
