Where Business Blooms – Garden Offices from Kingsey Furniture

Homework

Kingsey Furniture & Interiors, the home of Kingsey Kitchens & Interiors, are also at home in the garden it seems, designing and building garden offices.

Covid-19 has had an impact on the way we work these days. Unable to go to work due to government lockdowns, more and more of us are now working from home. This is a situation that is likely to remain for many people. But how practical is it, working from home?

Well, with a garden office, your work or business can bloom in the garden thanks to Kingsey.

Kingsey are masters of creating small offices in the tightest of areas within the home. They have fitted bijou work places under the stairs and inside a cupboard that is part of a kitchen for example.

But, if you want a larger area to work from, then a garden office is the perfect solution.

You retain that psychological feeling of leaving the house to go to work, but with a commute of only a few short steps. Plus you can separate family life from your work and no interruptions by the children.

A garden office from Kingsey Furniture & Interiors is, as you would expect, a well constructed environment. A real home from home. These buildings are certainly not mere sheds.

Fully insulated floors, walls and roofs with 100mm of insulation (most other garden offices are 50mm or 75mm). The walls are covered with plasterboard but behind that is 18mm ply so that the walls are strong enough to fix shelving and racking. The garden office can have wall heaters with a timer. The most popular at the moment is underfloor heating which can be left on low during the night and then utilising a timer, your office can be warm and cosy as you start the day. For most computers and other equipment fluctuations in temperature can be damaging so underfloor heating eliminates this. For the heat of the summer, you can have an air conditioning unit installed.

With Kingsey’s help you can design your garden office to fit your exact requirements. Any size and configuration is possible. You have a choice of floorings, plus you can have any type of wood cladding including Larch or Cedar. The tongue and groove cladding can be horizontal or vertical and can be left natural or painted any Cuprinol colour. You can have skirting boards and architrave with the walls painted in white emulsion. Double glazed windows of any size can be supplied and doors are available in a choice of Patio, Sliding or Bifold.

Of course you can’t work without electricity and Wi-Fi, Kingsey can organise this as well as any groundwork requirements.

There are financial benefits to having a garden office. They can add value to your property. If you are self employed there can also be tax benefits.

Generally, you will not need planning permission providing the structure is single storey. The team at Kingsey can explain all the details.

As for insurance, most companies will include this ‘outbuilding’ under home insurance.

The cost? This will depend on the size of the building, materials, and your specification. But as a rough idea, an 8ft X 10ft office of the highest build quality will cost approximately £12,500 (including VAT, but not including groundwork and electricity and WiFi from your house to the outside office).

Perhaps now is the time to plant something new in your garden.
